Brandy Heyde Montague is fighting for the earth.

episode 18

Nicola Newman

Can you believe we’re now past the one year mark of this pandemic?

If you’re anything like me, perhaps you’ve been reflecting on the past year, and the ways your life changed.

Last year during lockdown, I spent a lot of time watching documentaries about the environment, and learning all sorts of fascinating, incredible, and heartbreaking things about the earth.

More than ever before in my life, I became aware of the gap that exists in the way we as humans look after our world.

We’re so far from where we want to be, where we should be, in terms of awareness and action, and yet — we’re taking so many big steps forward.

I’ve wanted to bring a guest on the show to talk about this topic since before I even launched this podcast, and today I’m thrilled to talk to Brandy Heyde Montague, founder of For Animals. For Earth., a resource hub of simple ideas that anyone can try in their daily life to make a difference.

It feels like the challenges impacting our natural world are so beyond us, and so much bigger than anything you or I can do. I love this conversation with Brandy because we talk about how doable, and even fun, it is to practice environmental mindfulness in our everyday lives.

In this episode, Brandy and I discuss:

  • the impact the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan had on her desire to help animals

  • how she became aware of the connection between helping animals and saving the environment

  • answering the question, “what can I possibly do??”

  • taking a holistic, individual, approach to saving the earth by focusing on a few simple things that are realistic for you to do

  • finding creative ways to care for the earth

  • teaching kids environmental awareness

  • one of the biggest challenges we face in raising awareness about the environment

What an amazing, complex, mind blowing, interconnected world we live in. Let’s all do our part to help it thrive.
